The superlative level of craftsmanship, taste and history.

The art of distilling, lagering, distilling and blending botanicals makes lager jenevers a unique category. This is certainly reflected in the Aged PX 7 years. After 2810 days in the highest quality Pedro Ximénez casks, it was time to extract the liquid. However, it starts here Hooghoudt only after the liquid has been removed from the vessel do we accentuate the character of the spirit or give it a twist.

Limited Edition

We take the flavors to a higher level with unique distillates of smoked strawberry, apricot, bergamot, Dutch juniper and cloves. This enhances the existing full-sweet flavor elements and gives the Aged PX 7 years a unique, very fruity and slightly smoky character at the same time. Vat number 1031 is responsible for a jenever produced from 100% malt wine from a mix of barley, rye and wheat that still contains all the character at a cask strength of 56,9%.

This limited edition jenever is available in a limited edition of 421 bottles.

What am I tasting?

De Hooghoudt PX 7 Years has full sweet, powerful notes of currants, raisins, cocoa and finally roasted almonds that slowly rise to the surface.

Dried dates, a light wood touch and caramel can be found in the taste notes. Nevertheless, the Hooghoudt PX also a fresh element. Citrus, apricot and ripe strawberry. And then the light smoke, a truly unique taste experience with a nice complex and long aftertaste.

Grain selection

Hooghoudt is proudly part of the cooperative De Graanrepubliek. Together with the other members of the cooperative, we work together to take the taste of stitch products to a new level. For example, we combine the tastiest grains and distilled botanicals to produce unique drinks.

During heating, alcohol evaporates earlier than water. As a result, the alcohol and the aromas from the grain concentrate, whereby the vapor is liquefied again by cooling.

Bearing

Bearing, an art that requires time and patience. During this process, the malt wine carefully rests in oak barrels, where it develops and refines its character. The wood gives off subtle notes, while the liquid blends and matures harmoniously, resulting in a rich and complex taste experience.

Botanicals

Where in most other wood-aged categories the product is finished when it comes out of the barrel, it only starts here for Jenever: We can accentuate the character, give it a twist or both at the same time. The art of distilling, lagering, blending and distilling botanicals comes together in our Jenevers.

PX stands for Pedro Ximénez, a grape variety used to produce a sweet, syrupy sherry. PX sherry has an intensely sweet taste with notes of raisins, dried fruit and caramel.

Sherry oloroso barrels are barrels originally used to age sherry wine. Oloroso is a type of sherry that is darker, richer and more intense in flavor. These casks are often used in the gin (and whiskey) industry to age gin, enriching the gin with the characteristic sherry notes, such as dried fruit, nuts and spices.

Each Hooghoudt spirit contains a unique selection of the finest regional herbs from the Hooghoudtherb garden on the Ewsum estate. Classic monastery herbs such as nettle leaf, blessed thistle herb and orange peel bitter give our gins a fine, soft taste. In addition, spice supplier Jacob Hooy supplies the best natural herbs to complement our regional herbs.
