Artisan made distillates

In our Hooghoudt we believe in using high quality and natural ingredients. For more than 135 years we have been passionately extracting the most special flavours, colors and scents from nature. From the very beginning we strive for an innovative view on spirits. Hooghoudt inspires, experiments and innovates, making different drinks relevant to a wider audience. Discover the pure essence of our artisan distillates, infused with the flavors of nature.

The geographical location of our distillery determines the unique flavors. Each jenever contains a unique selection of the finest regional herbs from the Hooghoudtherb garden on the Ewsum estate. Classic monastery herbs such as nettle leaf, blessed thistle herb and orange peel bitter give our gins a fine, soft taste. In addition, spice supplier Jacob Hooy supplies the best natural herbs to complement our regional herbs. Jacob Hooy has been synonymous with craftsmanship and quality since 1743.

Rich history

Call us stubborn Groningers, but we invented and made everything in our bottles ourselves. And we have been doing this for four generations. It all started with our lively great-grandmother in 1888. She was experimenting behind the stills at a time when women did not even have the right to vote. Gretel Hooghoudt This set the tone for what later became our mission: the never-ending search for the tastiest flavours. That is why we have always continued to innovate our recipes. Every drop Hooghoudt tells this story in its own way. Made from ingredients that we preferably source from the region and that are always selected for quality. We've been doing that since 1888, and if it's up to us, we always will.

family business
Of the hundreds of jenever distilleries that the Netherlands has known, is Hooghoudt one of the few fully independent distilleries that has survived. It earned us the designation of Royal Warrant Holder, as the only jenever maker in our country. How did that happen? We take care of our distillery as if it were a child, because sooner or later it belongs to our children. Every generation Hooghoudt contributes to our family heritage, and cherishes the legacy of his parents. Our parents.

Proudly part of the Graanrepubliek

Hooghoudt is proudly part of the cooperative De Graanrepubliek. Together with the other members of the cooperative, we work together to take the taste of stitch products to a new level. This is how we combine the most tasteful grains and distilled botanicals to produce unique drinks.

In our Hooghoudt taste is of paramount importance, now for five generations. Day in, day out, we experiment to our heart's content with flavours, colors and scents from nature. Moreover, we are Hooghoudt- heart of beautiful Groningen; a region that we would like to support as broadly as possible and want to make proud again. So when the first talks started about initiating De Graanrepubliek, we were there Hooghoudt quickly excited. The cooperative then bought together with the family Hooghoudt and the farming family Waalkens from Finsterwolde the monumental building in which the visitor center of De Graanrepubliek is located. That makes Hooghoudt not only part of the cooperative, but also one of the drivers of the new movement.
