Prices for girl

When Hero Jan dies of pneumonia, Grietje continues independently. In 1898 she received an important recognition at the world exhibition Industry & Art Industry. It is the start of a rain of prizes for quality and taste.

Industry & Art Industry
Grietje now runs the distillery alone. She develops new drinks such as 'Hollandsche' brandy and 'cognac vieux'. The 'Voorburg', made from the peel of orange, lemon, mandarin and sweet orange apples, comes in all kinds of flavors and alcohol levels. In 1903, Grietje won a gold-plated silver medal with farm boys at the world exhibition Industry & Art Industry on the Korreweg in Groningen: fruit on brandy, made from eggnog. A competition in Hoogezand-Sappemeer yielded another highest distinction a year later.

Competition
Many more medals and honorable mentions follow. Grietje makes the effort to participate in these types of fairs to distinguish herself from the competition. She often says:

“There is always someone in the world who can make things a little worse and then sell it a little cheaper.”

And that is a detriment to quality for which she herself fits.
